Privacy Policy

Last updated October 21, 2026

RigValet collects as little as it can. The app and this site send us anonymous usage analytics, which you can turn off, and what you type into another Mac through RigValet never reaches us. This policy covers the RigValet app and rigvalet.com, run by Andrew Schreiber, an individual doing business as RigValet (“we”, “us”).

What we receive when you buy

Your purchase is handled by Link (Sold through Link, LLC, a Stripe company). Link and Stripe collect your payment details and never share your full card number with us. They share with us your email address, and may share your name, billing country and address, and the details of your order. Link and we are independent controllers of that data; Link’s use of it is covered by the Link privacy policy.

We use it to deliver your license, email it to you, handle support, refunds and fraud, and keep the records the law requires. Your license key contains your order number and how many Macs it covers; it doesn’t contain your name or email address.

What the app does

  • Anonymous usage analytics, which you can turn off. The app tells us which steps of setup you reach, whether the license, driver, helper and updates installed, and how a Setup Assistant run ended (as a code and a duration), with its version, your macOS version, a random ID for this installation and your approximate location (country, region, city and timezone), which PostHog looks up from your IP address and then discards: we don’t keep the address itself. It never sends what you type, what’s on the other Mac’s screen, your license key, your name or your email. When your license activates, that random ID is joined to your purchase’s random ID (see the website section below), so we can see which steps buyers get stuck on. Turn it off in the app’s About tab, with rigvalet analytics off, or by setting DO_NOT_TRACK=1. We use PostHog to store and analyze it.
  • What you type stays local. Account names, passwords, Wi-Fi details and other setup settings you give RigValet are sent only to the Mac it’s connected to, over the cable. Settings you choose to save, including a password, are stored on your Mac and are never sent to us. Keep your Mac secure: anyone with access to it may be able to read them.
  • Your license is activated with our server. To activate your key, and every few days after that, the app sends our server your key, the app’s version and a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware ID, so a key runs only on as many Macs as it covers. The server keeps that hash and when it last checked in.
  • Updates and the driver come from our server. The app downloads updates and its driver from api.rigvalet.com (hosted by Vercel and served through Cloudflare), which see your IP address as any website would.

The website

rigvalet.com is hosted by Vercel and served through Cloudflare, whose servers both log requests (including IP address and browser type) to run and secure the site. We use no advertising, no cookies of our own and no third-party trackers. We count page views and clicks on Purchase and Download ourselves, under a random ID your browser keeps in local storage, with the page, the site that sent you and your approximate location (country, region, city and timezone, as Cloudflare reports it; never your IP address), and store them in PostHog. If you buy, that random ID goes with your purchase, so we can see which pages lead to one. Your browser’s Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control setting turns this off. Stripe’s checkout page, which you reach from the Buy button, sets its own cookies under Stripe’s policies.

Email

We send your license by email and answer support email through Fastmail. We keep support conversations to help you and to handle refunds and disputes.

Who we share it with

Only the services above (Stripe and Link, Vercel, Cloudflare, Fastmail and PostHog), to run RigValet, and anyone the law requires us to share it with. We don’t sell or rent personal data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, usually up to 7 years, support email for as long as it’s useful to help you, and usage analytics for up to 7 years, then delete them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California law), you can ask to see, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email support@rigvalet.com. Deleting your purchase record also stops us from re-sending or checking your license. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. We process data on the basis of our contract with you, our legal obligations, and our legitimate interest in running and securing RigValet. Your data is processed in the United States.

Children

RigValet isn’t meant for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date. Questions or requests: support@rigvalet.com.
