Terms of Sale and License

Last updated October 2, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Andrew Schreiber, an individual doing business as RigValet (“RigValet”, “we”, “us”). They cover the RigValet app, its components (including its kernel extension and helper tools), its updates and rigvalet.com (together, the “Software”).

Read section 3 before you buy. RigValet only works after you turn off System Integrity Protection (SIP) on the Mac that runs it. That lowers the security of that Mac. You do it yourself, by choice, at your own risk.

By buying, downloading, installing or using the Software you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t buy or use it.

1. Buying RigValet

RigValet is sold through Link. Sold through Link, LLC, a Stripe company, is the reseller and merchant of record for your purchase. Your card statement shows LINK.COM*, and your receipt comes from Link. Link’s terms govern payment, sales tax and VAT, receipts, refunds and payment disputes. These terms govern the Software itself: your license to use it and what it does.

The price is a one-time payment, shown at checkout. Link calculates and collects any sales tax or VAT. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live.

2. Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on Macs that you own or are authorized to administer, for your own use. We license the Software to you; we don’t sell it. We keep all rights we don’t expressly grant.

You may not:

  • share, sell, rent or publish your license key, or let others use it;
  • copy or redistribute the Software or its kernel extension;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or modify the Software, except where the law allows it despite this limit;
  • get around, disable or tamper with the license check.

3. Security changes, and the risk you accept

RigValet requires you to lower the security of your Mac. You choose to do this, and you accept all of the risk.

To make your Mac act as a USB keyboard and mouse, RigValet loads a kernel extension. It only loads with System Integrity Protection (SIP) turned off, which on Apple silicon means setting your Mac to Permissive Security in Recovery. Apple describes these changes as follows:

  • “Disable SIP only temporarily to perform necessary tasks, and reenable it as soon as possible. Failure to reenable SIP when you are done testing leaves your computer vulnerable to malicious code.” (Apple Developer)
  • “Kexts have the same privileges as the kernel, and vulnerabilities in third-party kexts can compromise the entire operating system.” Turning off SIP on Apple silicon allows “any arbitrary kext to be loaded into kernel memory.” (Apple Platform Security)

While SIP is off, some macOS protections that depend on it may not run.

You understand and agree that:

  • What RigValet changes on the Mac that runs it. It needs SIP off, installs and loads a kernel extension that runs with kernel privileges, runs some components with administrator (root) privileges, and while it is connected may change network settings to share your internet connection over the cable.
  • What RigValet does to the Mac you connect it to. It sends keystrokes and pointer input, so it can do anything a person at a keyboard can. Depending on the options you choose, that includes creating an administrator account, turning on Remote Login and Screen Sharing, choosing settings on your behalf, and erasing that Mac and all of its data. A misread screen, an unexpected macOS prompt, a loose cable or a bug can send input to the wrong place.
  • Back up first. Back up every Mac involved before you change security settings or use RigValet. We aren’t responsible for lost data, however it is lost.
  • Turn SIP back on when you’re done. In Recovery, run csrutil enable, and restore Full Security in Startup Security Utility. Apple’s steps are here. RigValet stops working while SIP is on. That’s expected and isn’t a defect.
  • Only on Macs you own or administer. Don’t change security settings on, or connect RigValet to, a Mac owned or managed by an employer, school or anyone else without their written permission. Many organizations forbid turning off SIP, and device management can’t turn it back on for you.
  • Apple warranty and support. We make no promise about how these changes affect your Apple warranty, AppleCare or Apple support. Apple may turn SIP back on during service. Ask Apple if it matters to you.
  • macOS changes. A macOS update may stop RigValet working, change what SIP protects, or make these steps riskier. We don’t promise RigValet will work with any future version of macOS or hardware.

You alone decide whether to make these changes. Our guides and in-app instructions are offered for convenience, and following them doesn’t move any of this risk to us.

4. Acceptable use

Use RigValet only to set up and operate Macs you own or are authorized to administer. Never use it to get into a Mac you aren’t authorized to access, to bypass anyone else’s security, or in any way that breaks the law. Don’t use it where a failure could cause death, injury or serious harm to property or the environment.

5. Updates and third parties

RigValet checks for updates and downloads its kernel extension from GitHub. We may change, suspend or stop offering the Software or any feature. The Software relies on Apple’s macOS and hardware, GitHub and Stripe, which we don’t control and aren’t responsible for.

6. No warranty

To the fullest extent the law allows, the Software is provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranty of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and that the Software will be secure, error-free, uninterrupted, compatible with your Macs, or will not damage your Macs or data. Use of the Software is at your sole risk, and the entire risk as to its quality, performance and results is with you.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, loss of security, unauthorized access to your devices or accounts, device damage or repair costs, business interruption, or lost profits, arising from the Software, from changing your Mac’s security settings, or from these terms, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for RigValet or US$50.

8. Your responsibility to us

You will defend and indemnify us against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Software on a Mac you weren’t authorized to change or access, your breach of these terms, or your breach of any law.

9. Your rights as a consumer

Some places don’t allow some of the exclusions or limits above. Where that is so, they apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law, or takes away statutory rights you have as a consumer, including any right to cancel described in our refund policy.

10. Ending this agreement

This license lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break these terms, or if your payment is refunded, reversed or charged back; your license key then stops working. When it ends, stop using the Software, uninstall it, and turn SIP back on. Sections 3 and 6 to 12 continue after it ends.

11. Trademarks

Apple, Mac, Mac mini, MacBook, macOS and FileVault are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. RigValet is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple Inc.

12. General

New York law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be heard only in the state or federal courts in New York County, New York, or in small claims court where you live, and you and we consent to that jurisdiction. To the extent the law allows, claims may be brought only individually, not as part of a class or representative action, and you and we waive trial by jury. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you also keep the protection of your home country’s mandatory consumer laws and may bring a claim in its courts.

You may not use or export the Software in breach of U.S. export or sanctions laws. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, with the privacy and refund policies, are the whole agreement between us about the Software. We may update them; the version in effect when you bought RigValet applies to that purchase unless you agree to a newer one, for example by installing an update after we post it.
